The Heber City area of Utah has got some of the best fishing in the Western United States. What makes this statement true? Well, for one thing there are plenty of monster trout to be found. The local waters of the Provo River, the Weber River, Strawberry Reservoir and Deer Creek Reservoir are all packed with quality, big fish. Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Kokanee Salmon and even Walleye and Yellow Perch are found in abundance here. You can fly fish, spin fish or even ice fish for trophies year round. The fish are not leader shy so you can use a larger leader than you may be used to using. This means monster fish do not instantly break your line and become the “one that got away…” If you are looking to fill the smoker or freezer with good eats, the regulations support this and allow you to keep fish to eat. I know my family and I, certainly take advantage of this and have herb stuffed barbequed trout on a regular basis. Some of the best fishing waters in Utah can look like they are pretty crowded at times, this can be misleading. In my experience 80% of those crowds are not catching fish consistently and spend most of their time squinting at their fine leaders and trying a bunch of unproductive flies. With some good advise and a little technique training we can have you catching monster fish on a regular basis. That is what most fisherman want, right?!
